breakfast and a trip

i made baby bird a very special breakfast this morning! i've been meaning to pick up squeeze bottles to make pancakes for the longest time, but somehow i always forget. it may be that when i grocery shop i usually have baby bird with me, so its in and out with a quickness!! i finally remembered the other day and wanted to practice making pancake before next week when we start our alphabet weeks! needless to say... i'm going to need more practice! baby bird didn't even eat them. she counted the numbers, ate some kiwi and a piece of bacon... and then asked for milk. this kid could drink a gallon of milk a day!

in other news... we are heading to the see baby birds grammy and maw maw today. not by choice.. i would rather not go. its only 1 1/2 car ride, but i still hate making the trip. and of course dealing with everyone wanting me to be at their house all the time, but it is what it is and i have to go. i was visiting 3 weeks ago and helping my sister work on her scrapbook and decided to leave ALL of my scrapbook stuff at my moms house. what i was thinking i will never know, but my mom was supposed to come to my house 2 weeks ago and bring it back.... any who i need to go get my stuff and baby bird wants to see grammys horses so we are taking a day trip. lets hope for the best!!

unplugged

we don't really watch that much TV at our house. its nice to turn it on in the morning so i can have some time to wake up and get some cleaning done before having to entertain baby bird. shes a big fan of mickey mouse these days so its usually mickey mouse clubhouse, but then something else comes on, and then something else and then something else, and we just leave it on. when she goes down for a nap, i usually end up just relaxing for a bit, still watching Disney channel (we lost, well *someone* lost our remote). when i was pregnant i had the best of intentions.. i'm going to this.. i'm not going to do that and so on and so forth. one of my big issues was television. i said that we were not going to watch TV at all.  then reality hit. planning a baby and having one are two different things! when did get lazy with my rules.. shes 2 1/2 not 12! has she worn me down already? i think i gave in because i didn't think it was a big deal... but i'm starting to rethink things. i was talking to my mom the other day and told her about having to watch "rio" 5 times in 2 days. we had similar run ins with "alice in wonderland" "spirit" and "curious george" in the past! my mom suggested that we get her a TV for her room. i was appalled that my mother would suggest this, she knows what kind of parent i am. we are a one TV in the whole house. papa bird agrees, and we don't want a TV in any bedroom. i started thinking about it and wondered why i was so offended of the idea of having a TV in her room if i let her watch TV in the living room whenever! OK, not whenever.. but more than i would like for her to watch! i have decided to unplug the cable. i will still let baby bird watch movies, but no cable! i'm going to let her watch 1 or 2 movies a day, depending on the mood of the day and how many times i've seen the movie :)

Maps.

what an adventure! today we discussed our town, learned about maps and even went on a treasure hunt! the kids loved looking at the pictures of the library, post office, newspaper building, courthouse and other building around town. it amazes me how much they already know about our community. the kiddos were so excited about our treasure hunt. they were so polite when asking for clues, and were so good about looking both ways when they crossed the street. they loved the prize and had so much making their very own maps!

Baby Birdy and I belong to a local homeschooling group and tomorrow we are starting a new unit. We will be starting a 3 month unit on Social Studies, which I will be teaching!! YAY! I"m really excited about all of the activities I have planned for our little group. I had a last minute change for our activities tomorrow so I am currently working on things for our new activity. We will be starting this unit talking about Our Town. We will be looking at pictures of different buildings in town and discussing their function. We are then going to draw our very own maps! The most exciting part of this lesson will the the Treasure Hunt!!! Pictures and more details to come soon....
